Mange In Dogs – What’s The Solution

Mange In Dogs – What’s The Solution

Dogs are prone to many different skin problems, including dog mange.

This type of skin problem is considered a serious disease and mange can be the one of the worst skin diseases that
can attack your dog.

Symptoms
——–

Mange in Dogs usually starts with excessive itching.

Although it is normal for dogs to scratch and lick themselves, any excessive scratching and licking is an alarming signal. You will know that your dog may have mange with the following symptoms:

* Your dog scratches so heavily that red sores start to appear

* Together with these red sores, your dog loses some hair

* Your dog’s skin becomes dry, crusty, and wrinkled

* Your dog emits a foul smell

* In severe cases of mange, skin blisters and reddening are accompanied by open wounds and blood

Causes
——

The cause of mange in dogs is traceable to the mites burrowed in your dog’s hair.

These mites are too tiny to be seen and are often invisible to the eyes. The female mites are responsible for their rapid multiplication by biting your dog’s skin.

These bites cause your dog severe itching, making them continuously scratch the affected area. The rapid multiplication of the mites opens the risks to the mange skin disease.

Unhealthy environment and poor hygiene and grooming contribute to the spread of mange. Another cause can be the deterioration of your dog’s immune system.

Solution
——–

Mange in dogs is a serious skin disease that is best handled by your dog’s veterinarian.

In the event you can’t bring your dog to his veterinarian right away, the safest treatment you can give your dog is applying natural remedies.

Most of these natural remedies can be found right in your kitchen. Cooking oil is a good solution to relieve itchiness, as it has the ability to kill the mites pestering your dog.

A good alternative to cooking oil is cleansing the afflicted area with dog soap and lukewarm water. You should also increase the frequency of bathing of your dog when mange strikes. An oatmeal bath can disinfect your dog.

As for a weak immune system… encourage your dog to eat finely chopped raw green vegetables. This will also be most likely recommended by his veterinarian as a solution to mange.

You can prevent the occurrence of mange in dogs by ensuring that your dog lives in a healthy environment, and by giving Fido the right nutrients to strengthen his immune system.

Ragamuffin Cats Bred To Be Docile

Ragamuffin Cats Bred To Be Docile

For those of you who like their cats to be cuddlers, who thrive on attention, and who love to follow their owners around like little shadows, the RagaMuffin Cat is for you. They are absolutely famous for their mellow personality, and while you should always keep your cat indoors for its safety and protection, the Ragamuffin has to be kept indoors. These cute balls of fur can actually be quite large for a cat, ranging between ten and fifteen pounds, with the males sometimes weighing in at a whopping twenty pounds that is pure muscle and fur, not fat. Their fur tends to reminds you of rabbit fur, and they have unusual colored eyes in blue, green, turquoise, or odd.

As for the name RagaMuffin, it came about because when these cats are cuddled, they go as limp as a rag doll. The breed is thought to have been brought about literally by accident back in the 1960s by Ann Baker, a Persian breeder who lived in Riverside. Baker had a neighbor who cared for a number of feral cats. One day, one of these feral cats was struck by a car and nursed back to health by the kind-hearted neighbor. Once recovered, the cat proceeded to have a litter of kittens that so impressed people with their sweet nature and sociability that Baker took in as many of the kittens as she could for the express purpose of breeding them. The myth was that somehow the accident was the reason for the kittens having such a different temperament from their mother. In actuality, it was most likely due to the natural variation of having different fathers.

Baker had dubbed these kittens Cherubim cats and developed strict breeding guidelines for the breed. However, a group of breeders split off from her and began to call the cats Ragdolls. After a lot of bitterness and dispute, Baker registered the cats as Ragdolls and franchised the cats, earning royalties on every cat sold, while continuing to make all of the decision regarding their breeding. It isn’t known what happened to Baker, but stories began to emerge in later years from Baker stating that the cat’s origins were the result of extraterrestrials and human-gene-implantation experiments. Finally in May of 2001, Curt Gehm of Virginia decided to name the cats RagaMuffin since they sprang from the endearing little urchin cats of Riverside. One Florida woman is quoted as saying, “They are big, huggable, loveable Muffins.”

RagaMuffins are ideally suited for homes with children but are equally well suited to just about any environment and lifestyle; however, please remember that they do need to be kept indoors. They absolutely adore companionship and will literally get underfoot constantly. It would be pretty hard to find an aloof RagaMuffin as they are typically bred for their docile nature and will do just about anything to get you to rub their tummies.

The most famous cats (based on online chatter) with names starting with the letter N to Sc are:

9. Paulie, from the Non Sequitur comic strip

8. Patsy, who was Charles Lindbergh’s cat

7. Orlando the Marmalade Cat, from the series of books by Kathleen Hale

How To Prevent Cats Spraying In Your Home

How To Prevent Cats Spraying In Your Home

The myth is that only male cats spray inside. Unfortunately that is not always true. In actuality males and females alike spray inside. They do it for a multitude of different reasons.

Sometimes there is not much we as cat lovers can do to stop our cats spraying. It is almost always considered a territorial issue with cats.

One major reason cats spray is to ‘mark their territory’. The dominant male cat sees it as a alert to other cats that they are in charge and are the ruler of their home or garden. You may find male cats are likely to spray directly in front of others, felines and humans alike with no discrimination. When a male cat sprays it is a very thick, sticky and obnoxious spray.

Another reason why cats spray is when there is a new cat added to the family. Whether it be a kitten or an adult cat the original cat may interpret that as a threat. As the spraying begins you will need to be prepared to disinfect and retrain your cat with each and every spray.

A more plausible reason to feline spraying is the introduction of new furniture, accessories or people. As this is a tricky one to avoid, since our lives are ever-changing and getting better, the cats have a trickier time dealing with change. When you introduce new furniture it may have the smell of the factory on it and they feel threatened by it.

There are three things to keep in mind as a simple solution to ridding your home of the dreaded smell of spraying done by your cats. White vinegar and water, baking soda and water and hydrogen peroxide (no water). These are all three home remedies that have been proven over the years to work. Now you can enjoy your home with your furry friends even more than before. James Winsoar is the boss of Microchip Cat Flaps Ltd a company that retails the range of microchip sensing cat flaps. He also writes to help cat lovers with cat care issues.

Fun Toys For Dogs – Safe, Interactive And Cheap

Fun Toys For Dogs – Safe, Interactive And Cheap

Top dogs deserve safe, fun toys but it is not easy to find toys for dogs that are indestructible and cheap at the same time.

Unruly behaviour in dogs is often caused by boredom and being left home alone with no fun dogs toys to play with. Every dog needs exercise and mental stimulation. Owners cannot always be on hand to take their dog for a walk or play with them for whatever reason. A few well chosen dogs’ toys is the answer to keep your dog happy and content.

There are many types of toys for dogs such as tug/pull toys, chew toys, soft toys and interactive toys in all price ranges but you should make certain that any toy you give your dog is safe. Many cheap dogs toys are those that contain little plastic squeakers in them which can really harm your dog and usually a dog will be intent on pulling the squeaker out and do so within ten minutes of having the toy! Vets see more dogs in distress through swallowing small toy parts than any other type of accident. So safety is a big issue when it comes to dog or puppy toys.

Toys for dogs should be fun and engage your dog in play – interactive dog and puppy toys are a popular good choice as your dog can either play alone with these toys or you can join in too.

I have an 8yr old westie who loves to play – his favourite dogs toys of all time are his talking babble balls (interactive dog toys) which provide him with hours of fun! We often play together by me chasing Dougs and kicking the talking babble ball across the kitchen floor with him darting around after this toy that keeps coming out with smart little sayings in a really cute voice such as are you ready to go? or youre looking great big doggy! The interactive balls are made of hard plastic and virtually indestructible so they really are good value toys for dogs. Dougie has had at least 6 of these talking babble balls since they came out about 4 yrs ago but now PetQuerks who manufacture the dogs toys have made the latest ones with replaceable batteries making the toy just right. The talking babble balls are very safe for your dog as the battery container is concealed within so that your dog cannot get anywhere near it. This interactive dog toy is safe, fun and indestructible, making ideal puppy toys too. Apparently the toys are also popular with children and cats love the small talking babble ball.

Aggressive Cats Not Necessarily A Bad Thing

Aggressive Cats Not Necessarily A Bad Thing

The trainability of cats has always been put to question, mostly because of the constant comparison between them and their canine counterparts. In actuality, cats are quite intelligent and can develop better behavior or even be trained to operate simple mechanisms. The reason for this is that cats are self-sufficient whether they are trained or not. It’s part of their instinct.

Another reason for the belief that cats cannot be trained is the case of aggressive cats. There are several categories that aggressive cats may fall into depending on how they exhibit their aggression. These categories are play aggression, defensive aggression, misdirected aggression and territorial status aggression. The way to handle a situation with an aggressive cat is to determine what aggression the cat is exhibiting.

A cat that is play aggressive would not make any sound while a truly hostile cat will growl as it advances. No negative stimulus needs to be put into play when a cat is in play aggression. Usually, aggressive cats in play aggression are over stimulated by the play their owner bestows on them and treats the owner just like another cat thus causing scratches or bits. But if a cat begins scratching or biting with no previous indication of violent behavior, the cat needs to be brought to a veterinarian because the cat may be exhibiting aggression due to pain from a medical problem.

Over stimulation is a big No No with cats. Once they are over stimulated, they can lash out with their teeth and claws. It is important for owners to know the tolerance level of their pets to know what activities to stay away from. Cats can also be in defensive aggression if they feel cornered or encounter something that disturbs them. In the case of disturbance, it does not usually mean something traumatizing but just something that they have not adjusted to yet.

Misdirected aggression is when a cat is disturbed by something that is different from the target of its supposed attack. The best way to get rid of this type of aggression is to take away the cause of the cat’s hostility.

Very few cats exhibit territorial aggression toward people. Usually, cats vie for position amongst each other with the general idea that the provider of the food is not someone to be messed with or attacked. Breeds like the Siamese or Burmese are two that exhibit this aggression. Territorial aggression is often dealt with by professionals who can assess the behavior, identify the triggers and work at modifying them.

Owners should not hit cats to stop aggression because the cat does not understand this correction thus making it fearful or more defensive than before. For a successful try at getting rid of aggression, taking the cat to a professional is always a good idea.
